Ciliwung Herpetarium was a non-profit educational facility managed by Indonesia Herpetofauna Foundation (IHF) located in Gelonggong Village, Bojong Gede, Bogor. The facility was established to raise awareness of local herpetofauna where the public can visit it without admission fee. Apart of its ex-situ efforts, the herpetarium also served as educational facility for local kids.
In 2019, we established the "Laskar Kepompong" (Cocoon Club) in Gelonggong Village, where the Ciliwung Herpetarium is based. Every Thursday and Sunday, we had a session with a group of local children, where they are free to express themselves while learning about nature and building character. The philosophy behind this is that we don't know what these kids will become when they grow up - just like we wouldn't know what kind of butterfly will come out of the cocoon (unless you're a butterfly expert, of course).
We also ran social media campaign where our Instagram account gained more than 2k followers. Unfortunately we made the difficult decision to close it in July 2021, due to various reasons, such as financial factors, lack of impact, and resources.
